Force tilt cylinder rebuild?

Have a 1989 force L-drive and the outdrive will slowly sink when raised to full height. I've got it taken apart for other reasons now so I wonder if anyone knows if a rebuild kit is available for the hydraulic cylinder, and the part# or link to where I can get it. Thanks.

Re: Force tilt cylinder rebuild?

I've never seen a "kit". The L drive is different than the standard tilt/trim set up. I have a standard 1988 125 hp. What I ended up doing was taking the tilt/trim cylinders apart and taking them to a local shop that repaired hydraulic cylinders for commercial use. I looked them up in the Yello Pages. They measured the old rings and matched them up with replacements. Cost me about $15.00 total.

One word of caution. There is a hydraulic valve mounted on the botom of the tilt/trim motor. There may be a couple of "O" rings in it too that will affect operation. They should be changed, but I would try the easy things first. Do the tilt and trim cylinders and see if that corrects your problem. If it still doesn't work, then you should look at the hydraulic valve.

pnw, thanks for the info. I figured that's what I'd be doing but wanted to see if anyone knew otherwise. Didn't think about the pump area though, just thought it was a bypassing cyl. I'll be sure to check that too. Thanks !
