I have a 1985 Force 85 HP. I need to know how to remove the king pin. I have removed the kingpin cap that covers the lower end of the kingpin. I don't see any access to the top. Is there an internal thread on the kingpin I can engage and use to pull the kingpin down?

Re: Forcee 85HP King Pin Removal

I am in the same boat (no pun intended) with my 1985 Force 125. Don't know how to get that loose without lifting the entire mount and motor off and then disassembling. There is no really clear way of getting it free, but I can tell you the King Pin is hollow.

Mine seems to have some caulking or rubberized substance in the top of it from the motor housing side.

I'd love to know if you get a good answer on this one.

CC

Re: Forcee 85HP King Pin Removal

Gentalmen
I hope you both have manuals for this job. In order to remove the king pin, you will have to disassemble the entire outboard down to major componants. You will need to remove the powerhead and the lower unit. This will leave you with the exhaust housing and swivel bracket. remove the exhaust housing. Now your ready to start worring about the king pin(as force calls it). The tough part about this type job is most manuals including the OEM manual don't give this area a lot of coverage. Why? Because once you get that far apart there isn,t a whole lot left to write about. I don't know why you fella's need to remove these king pins. Are you both sure there is a problem with the pins or bushings? Are they loose and sloppy? Or are they just stuck and the motor won't turn,(hard to steer)? If one or both of you are serious about this and get your motors apart down to the swivel brackets I may be able to help with info on removing the king pin correctly. Let's figure out what is really needed here.

Re: Forcee 85HP King Pin Removal

I have a Seloc manual. You told me enough to take another approach. I bought a power tilt and trim unit for my engine. I didn't know if it was easier to rebuilt the unit I got onto my existing swivel bracket or just install the tilt & trim with the swivel bracket it's on.

Since there isn't a problem with my existing bracket, I'll install the tilt & trim on the existing bracket and forget removing the kingpin.

Thanks for the input. Now I have made an informed decision.
