Ok, so I am Very confused.

I have boat, with a Motor, everything tells me its a Ford 233hp 351

Serial number on the engine is : 4476062

Everything I have searched on the internet says the Plugs should be a " NGK AR6FS "

Currently whats in the boat is a : NGK UR5

The store I went to (CanadianTire) sells a veriety of different plugs. and they used this website to cross match them

http://www.sparkplug-crossreference.com/

Now the first thing that jumps out at me is that the spec's on the Plugs are totally wrong.

UR5 :
Type: AUTOM.
Thread size: 14mm (0.55118 inches)
Hex size: 0,63 inches (16.002 mm)
Reach: 0,46 inches (11.684 mm)
Seat type: TAPERED
Projected tip: YES

AR6FS
Type: AUTOM.
Type: MARINE
Thread size: 18mm (0.70866 inches)
Hex size: 0,81 inches (20.574 mm)
Reach: 0,46 inches (11.684 mm)
Seat type: TAPERED
Projected tip: NO

I am going to go grab some picture of the engine, so people can see what I have. but anyone have any idea's about what the disconnect is?

Can you give year of boat and do you know if it is a 351 windsor or cleveland style engine?

Sorry , I dont know what a Windsor or Clevland style engine means.

as for the boat, its a 1976 Sunray, the company no longer exists.

That is a 351 windsor. It is a small block ford in the same category as a 302 and such. Ford only used 14mm spark plugs in small blocks, after 71 or 72 therefore the UR5 is the one that fits.

Windsor and Cleveland r citys where each of the engine's were built. Windsor should be fuel injected Cleveland was carburated. Atleast all the 351s ive seen worked that way. got a windsor n my dads 92 F150

351 windsor was introduced in 1969. there was no fuel injection back then and ford didnt start any fuel injection until 1985.

It shouldnt surprise me how much stuff is stored in people's heads, because When it comes to computers and the like, I consider myself quite the expert.

But still, it just blows my mind that people can pull stuff like this out of there head and serve it up.

Thanks guys, I at least know know what I am lookinf for.

If I can trouble you a bit more for some of your knowledge. When Cross referencing different plugs , why should I choose one over the other?

for example:
http://www.sparkplug-crossreference.com/convert/NGK_PN/UR5/

Bosch: HR6BC
Bosch: HR8BC
Bosch: HR9BC
or
Champion: 4113
Champion: RV12YC
Champion: RV9YC

I am going to look up the differences the models, but I am curious if anyone can mention why a RV12YC is different then the RV9YC and why one might be better ?

First never use a champion or bosch in a ford. Never works out. NGK is ok and Motorcraft if you like. Under normal circumstances small block fords run best with cooler heat ranged spark plugs.

And be thankful you have the windsor. Better engine by 10 fold than cleveland.

I'm running an 888 drive ( 302 block with 351 heads)with Autolite 25 plugs. Autolite also specs the #25 plug for the 233 with the 14mm plug hole. If in doubt you can consult the Mercruiser #2 manual here.

As far as I know, Mercruiser didn't use Cleveland blocks for any of their stern drives.
