I believe my alt has died...or is very close...it's old and I want to replace it
.not sure what to buy as in amperage...I have a petronix igniter 2 distributor and only run a fishfinder for the most part...I took it out today and it ran rough. I don't believe it's putting out enough juice. Not only that but my fully charged battery died as well.

Most likely your alternator is a 35 amp unit.

Here is what I have. I haven't found any with that wire coming out. Is it necessary?

????

that is the excite wire and probably a charge light indicator on the dash.

most 3 wire alternators will work.

your current alternator is a 42 amp. I personally would just take it to the local starter/alternator shop and pay the $50 to put in new diode pack, regulator, etc.

I've taken it in once before already...it's got a grinding noise now as well to add to the problem...

most likely a bearing going bad. they are 6000 series bearings (under $5)

However if you want to go new, get a 3-wire

It shows 105 amp
You have to rewire your boat to use anything over a 42 amp alternator.

It can be done, however you need to replace wiring from the alternator to the battery and the helm. You have to bypass the ammeter.

It also has no exciter wire....and they haven't answered on a price. So what's the deal on the exciter wire...an alt without one is no good for me or what

maybe google the part number.

or get your old Delco rebuilt

or get a higher output alternator and change the wiring
