Hello all, first post here. In the past all i had to do to the boat was put gas in it. So two years ago (2006) we had all over the neighborhood kids in my 1990 Baretta Sucess 23' with Ford 302 and Cobra at the lake tubing when the drive coupling went out. It as been i dry storage since at the lake. Looking to get it ready for the 4th. I plan to pull the drive and replace the coupling, gimbel bearing and bellows myself. Outside of the oil change, foot dope and dumping the gas (which sucks, i probaly only paid $2.50 a gallon for it), is there anything else i should plan on after not running the boat for a whole season? Does the carb need to be rebuilt or should i should i just repair and test run.

My boat has never shifted right since they day i bought it 6 years ago, i cant wait to try the adjustments i have read about.

Thanks for this great sight and any help in advance, just need to know what i am missing. Should i squirt oil on top of the pistons before starting or anything like that.

Thanks, i cant wait to start burning $4.00 a gallon gas this summer...:(

Shift cable; interrupter need looked into. Carb probably gummed. Tune up.

Thanks Coors i will plan on rebuilding the little bitty Holley 2300 aswell, no extra money for a 4 barrel and intake this year. New plugs and check timing. I have the pertronix ignition and coil so i should be good there. Been reading some tonight and i will be checking the motor mounts out also. Ready to hit the water a.k.a. crash on the wakeboard. I will let you know how it goes, hopefully i can get back on the water for less than the grand for labor only i was qouted.

Thanks

You say coupling, what about the coupler itself which the drive shaft slides into, is it damaged as well?

If your coupler went bad it's possible your engine is not in alignment. When you replace make sure you use an alignment tool.If you have a shift problem with that drive, water has probabley gotten into the shift shaft area and needs to be cleaned or the cable replaced.Scum build up on the end of the shift shaft causes hard shifting.
Test your gas it is probably still good.If you left your tank full it won't condensate like a 1/2 tank would. If you can get BOAT STOVE ALCOHOL you can put it in with the gas. It will absorb the same amount of water in the gas.If you put in 1 cup it will absorb 1 cup.Much better than anything on the market .Jerry
