I've got a couple of Questions about a 96 Tauras. Just finished replacing plugs, plug wires. While I had the upper intake off so I could replace the plugs on the rear bank I noticed some of the vacume lines were looking bad. Had 4 that I wanted to replace since they are burried. Talked with ford house and was told they don't sell individule hoses that I would have to buy a kit. Cost of kit is 150.00. Is this true? BTW the car has the DOHC 3.0. Also how big of a job is it to replace the blend door motor?

Bend over Cajun. Apparently the blender door is motor operated and a known weak point. Had one go out on a 97 E150, just out of warranty. I screamed and yelled and told them that you could go pull a 53 Chevy out of the junk yard and the heater doors would still work. They only charged me $100.00 to fix it. Goodwill jesture.<br /><br />I would take a sample of the vacume lines to Napa and see what they come up with. This is the age of the three dollar, used to be 50 cent tail light bulb. They have to make everything so complex so you can't fix it and they can charge whatever they want to sell it.

This is the age of the three dollar, used to be 50 cent tail light bulb.

I just paid $8.00 from Ford for a wafer thin 22mm nut used on the rear wiper motor shaft. Nobody had anything like it. <br /><br />The gearbox went bad. Had to replace the whole motor assembly. The wiper blade was frozen on the old shaft, had to grind it off. Then as I tried to remove the old nut, the threads on the shaft disintegrated. Had to grind it off too.

These proprietary auto parts are getting worse than marine prices. You should have tried to rethread it KaGee. If you didn't have the tool you could have bought one, come out ahead and still had the die.

I got your fix for the vaccum lines. Take a small piece of one the lines to the parts store with you. The hard britle lines will fit inside conventional rubber vaccum hose. Get enough to do everything you have access to. It shouldn't be over $10 at the most. Just use the very end pieces of line as an attach point. You may even be able to do completely away with the hard plastic line and connect the hose directly to the branch tee.

I know what you mean kaGee, the aluminium thread binds in the nut and any attempt to release it just makes it worse - damn fine thread too.<br /><br />Aldo

They [FORD]do that same stupid steel nut to aluminum threads at the A/C evaporator core to accumulator fitting.

I'm just a Hacker. Even I know that dis-similar metals are an issue. You'd think educated engineers would know better.

Enginneered to sell parts what do you think last for ever we all would be driving Model "T"'s if that was the case And FORD"S better idea I'm still searching for that one

I replaced the vacume lines. I wern't the little hard plastic ones but 3/8 ID from the rocker covers and PVC valve. Had some pretty sharp bends in a couple. Just bought 3/8 line and made the lines a little longer as not to crimp. Seems to be working ok. <br /><br />Dis-similar metals..........HM outboards.

Thanks Indy, I'll peruse it. If it happened once before it could happen again. They never said if they repaired mine with a new improved version.
