Re: Forgot boat plug- wet Mercrusier 140

I got the starter off and opened up, by removing the bolt Toxt mentioned. There was moisture and leaves and bits of other things in there. It was easy to take apart. I found a Delco service bulletin that told me what to oil, what to grease, and what to leave dry. I ran it down to the auto parts store for a run on the test machine. The bendix was working and it was drawing about the right amount of current. It's a really nice weekend here and I am lamenting not being able to boat (but I am getting other chores at home done). Yet I still cannot decide to fix oil leak now or later.

My next question is: will the Merc 140 (GM180 I4) bolt up to a regular engine stand that one can get at a farm or auto parts store? Or is there a better alternative?

I decided to stay together until end-of-season. Two nice runs on the lake so far and everything seems good except for a loose bow eye.

On the starter and alt...

Open them up and use wd-40...spray the crap out of them, then let them dry.

Thanks, Chay. I did the starter already, I have yet to crack the alternator. It should come off anyhow, it needs a new bracket.

It's nice to be back on the water. Thanks for all of the help everyone!
