Forgot to put in the drain plug for the first time ever the other day. Yay. Realized it after driving the truck about 300ft. Tried to frantically back up before jumping out and running. Boat was beached, shocking how much water was in there (bilge switch was off while out of the water). Ended up to the top of the rear mount. Alt and starter were spared. Fuel tank was covered, but no signs of water in there after running. Couldn't remember exactly where the vent in the transom plate is, not sure if it got above that. Of course, this was the day that I finished my boat lift and wasn't going to pull the boat again for the summer. Waiting for the rain now before I pull the drive for the 4th? Time this season... No way I could boat for the rest of the season not knowing if my bellows are full of water

Bummer!
Sorry to hear that.
My State doesn't require having the drain plug out when trailering, as some do, so my drain plug stays screwed in all season. But that doesn't disqualify me from joining the forgot the drain plug club! I suspect my day will come...eventually. No one is safe!

Heck, I was very lucky a couple of weeks ago when retrieving. I nearly dragged my skeg. I would have been one of "those guys"!
I thought I had trimmed the drive all the way up to trailer position, but it was only at the high limit. I went to hook up the stern straps and I nearly pooped myself!
The skeg never hit the ground, but I was stunned at my mistake. Must have been a senile moment...

what size tee shirt do you want..... LOL

on my searay about 11 or 12 years ago, I backed in, friends loaded on board. I had them turn the blower on and I went to park. came back (about 3-5 minutes) to see the bilge pump spewing water and I knew what happened. so I got wet jumping in the water to install the plug. after that, I wrote the word "plug" on each of the transom tie-downs.

I also have the word "drive" and "lights" on the winch stand and coupler because I forgot to raise the drive once and I forgot to connect the lights once

When it rains it pours. Don't feel too bad. Arguing with my wife, I carelessly put a gas nozzle inside a rod holder on a center console .

Pulled the drive, no water in there (until it started to pour .
After the other thread about the bell housing nuts, I managed to strip one of the nuts when torquing it. Strange. But ready for more boating!

I replace the bell housing nuts every few years. Once the nylock starts to wear, it's pretty east to over torque them and squish out the drive gasket.

I did my plug day with my kid, winter time, at a lake that was waaaaay down low, so had to park way up the hill. Had the camper on at the time too. Never seen an old guy run so fast and backup so fast.

I hesitate to comment because I feel like I'm only going to jinx myself and make it happen next time out lol...

You'd think someone would have invented a one way drain valve by now so you'd never have to take it out except maybe once a year
