I also posted the same question under Merc/Mariner forum for those who don't frequent this one. Just wondering why the Evinrude/Johnson forum has twice the number of topics and posts vs that of the Mercury/Mariner forum.

Is one that much more popular than the other or does it reflect more problems with one vs the other ?

This might be interesting

There is about 15 times as many Johnrudes running today as there are Mercs.
Johnrudes from the 40's, 50's, and 60's are still running strong where-as most of the merc produced in that time period have found the end of their life.

Propably because, The OMC is a more widely used engine. Certainly! the Mercury is a very fine engine. I feel! to argue that point is foolish. Like! Ford Vs, Chev. There are still a lot of old OMC engines' in running condition, and the people on this board want to take them back to that state. If you travel the rivers', and lakes', you will see a lot of old OMC engines clear back to the 50's. It is rare to see the Merc's going back this far. The reason for this is not clear to me. It could have been distrubution, reliability, or dealer back-up of there product. I would not feel left out with either engine. Both are getting better by the year. I will say! with Bombardier in charge, Merc may loose there performance image.
