Re: Forums reflect popularity or reliability ?

dsrchamp04 may very well be a troll, but he is the type of person that keeps threads like this going with so many posts.

Theoildoc VS. Lubedude- case and point!

If there was no controversy here, life would be pretty boring. Do I agree that dsrchamp04 made some inappropriate comments? Sure. Does it keep life here interesting? Yep.

To dsrchamp04: No one comes here believing that everything they read is gospel. This is simply the nature of the beast. Instead of your comments, perhaps try expressing your opposing view point- it would actually give you some thread of credibility. Everyone has a right to their opinion- so add to the thread with your pro-Merc experience instead of just spreading your garbage.

My other theory is that you sit in your Mom's basement and are about 15 years of age and wish you owned a Merc. But I digress as well. (just stirring the pot- *chuckles*)

So, since I am a pro Nissan/ Tohatsu guy, does this mean we are the least popular AND most reliable??

Re: Forums reflect popularity or reliability ?

Well, I know that one of the reasons that there are more posts in the johnnyrude forum is that there are simply a lot more of the old-timers out there of those two brands, and folks who have them, or get one, need assistance getting them going.

There are tons of threads on that forum around the series of outboards made between about 1954 and sometime in the late 60s.

The two-cylinder outboards made by Evinrude and Johnson in that decade simply will not die. They're tough as nails, simple to work on, even for a novice, and parts are still available for them.

So, what happens a lot is that someone buys one of those outboards for a good price and wants to get it running again. Since it can usually be done without spending a ton of money, there are lots of threads on 50s and 60s two-cylinder johnnyrudes.

You just don't see that in the Merc forum. Either all the 50s and 60s Mercs are still running perfectly or they're all in the junkyard, there just aren't that many topics on the old outboards there.

Anyhow, that's one of the reasons.
