Hello from England. I am thinking of installing a forward scan sonar but all of the manufactures
do not make a boat transom mounted transducer. They only supply the in hull type. The hull of my boat has two skins with buoyancy foam sandwiched between. The prospect of drilling into the hull I feel is out of the question. I have exchanged e-mails with Echopilot Marine here in England who tell me that some of their customers have made their own mounting brackets but could not help me further. Can anyone help me? Regards, David

Ahoy, David.

Interphase makes a forward scanning sonar that has a transom mount transducer. SIL has one on his boat and loves it.

Check ebay.

Good luck. :)

Re: Forward Scan Transducer

The EchoPilot you folks make kicks the butt out of anything Interphase makes. I am told that Interphase frequently attempts to procure the rights to EchoPilot’s technology/patents.

I’ll bet someone here could tell you how to make a transom mount, but I would opt for the thru-hull mount. A thru-hull isn’t that big of a deal, tho the idea of putting a hole in the bottom of your boat can be a little un-nerving initially.

Btw, from my side of the pond, EchoPilot has the absolute worst customer service, and Interphase as great customer service. Go figure. I’d still opt for the EchoPilot. The last time I looked, the Interphase update/refresh times were unacceptably slow, once every 30-seconds at max resolution. EchoPilot is every ½-sec I believe. For collision avoidance applications, Interphase isn’t even a consideration.
