First of all, 88 octane is specified for that engine. Use 89, not 87 or 93.

Is your distributor the original points model, or have you installed an electronic ignition? I had a similar problem before I upgraded and it turned out to be a faulty condenser.

+1 on the electronic conversion. I would change out the coil also. They are not soo expensive.

Turning the IDLE mixture screws and tightening the choke up will make your plugs even blacker. The oil in your coil is boiling. Repace it with the correct one. They don't recharge. The coil is cooling down in the time it takes you to replace the spark plugs.

I had the same problem of running and killing after time. It was the coil, which failed as it got hot. Tough to test as the coil looks fine till it's really hot. Could be nothing to do with the plugs, but the coil cools as you change them. As suggested, try it cold with the old pugs. I'd just change to coil too as it's cheap and you're throwing money into spark plugs anyway.
