Re: Found a boat

I don't mind rebuilding motors. But what is the the difference between the car cam and the truck cam. I did find out that the guy that had it died and is son is selling it. What happen to the motor was they didn't winterize it and it crack the block and one head. I figure that this will help me learn about boats inside and out...Thanks again

As far as I know..The truck cam has a much higher RPM range that is needed in the marine world.

You are often running at 3800 plus RPMs all day with the hammer down and an auto cam cant take it nor give you the power you need.

Others MUCH smarter than I will chime in..

You def need a manual..go to the top ADULTS only section and download the entire OEM manual..

Re: Found a boat

Do a search for reversion. It really has nothing to do with performance, more about making sure that no water is sucked in on the intake stroke . . . ;)

As in not wanting overlap, which in my mind would cause reversion?
Not an issue on a land based vehicle, but when your exhaust goes out in the water, it's a different story.

As to the RPMs, that's not it because most car engines rev higher than truck engines, truck engines TYPICALLY make their power down low.

Re: Found a boat

Truck/RV/Marine cams certainly would not have more rpm than an automotive cam for the same engine. The Marine/RV cams are for heavy duty use which means they are designed for maximum torque as low as possible but with enough breathing to hit 5,000rpm. Performance cams do not care about low end and make power higher up in the rpm band which is the opposite of what heavy duty, i.e. Marine/RV, applications need. Water ingestion is more likely with a cam designed to make power higher up the rpm range.

a running boat is much more FUN than a NON running boat- buy one thats running unless you are confident and mechanicaly giffted enough to get er done!

I'm with ^^^^. If your goal is wrenching and one of the results may be a boat that runs, get this. Otherwise, if you want to boat, get one that runs.
