Found a grill for my boat

I was looking at one of the local auction sites the other day and saw a Magma Grill that I ended up winning.

It had the tube mount, but the larger size. I looked around and found one of my kids old 2 wheel scooters that they don't use anymore. Pulled the handle and tubes and did a little modifying, added some shade tree engineering and production with some scrap aluminum that I had and ended up with a mounting tube set up.

There was a hole in the gunnel from an old rod holder and it fit easily and covered it up. The mount is height adjustable and can raise up about 5 ". I installed 2 supports under the gunnel that span the width of the gunnel. I need to pick up a rubber furniture leg cap to finish it off.

My wife thinks I'm a little crazy, but I think that will change after we use once or twice.

It didn't come with a lid, but I can't complain too much. I have $15.20 invested so far.:D:cool:

If anyone out there has a lid let me know, PM, I might be interested.

Photobucket was having issues today so no big pics, sorry.

Re: Found a grill for my boat

I will say that having a grill on the boat dramatically changes my (and others) enthusiasm about all-day trips, it's really awesome.

There was no way to put a pedestal mount on my previous boat, so I set it up on the rather large swim deck on the back (it was one of the other style grills with the fold-up lid). Anyways my luck ran out at Aquapalooza last year and she slid off the back with like 4 burgers and 6+ sausages. I swear it was total slow motion too.

..I followed the propane bubbles and managed to pull up the grill, minus our dinner. :(

Needless to say I was already looking at pedestal mount options on the Donzi for this season. The boat actually came with your EXACT grill except it doesn't have the propane system under it - I guess it's charcoal only?! I'll probably rig up a mount for my Kuuma grill and let it sit on the side of the boat like yours. The windshield wraps around past the rear bench seat so I'm going to need to get creative. :(

Anyways good install, looks OEM!

Looks pretty cool...somehow the only thing that I see having a BBQ in is a pontoon boat...lol

T-GT, Glad you were able to rescue your grill, too bad about the food. I've seen that slow motion stuff before, still can't stop it. Good luck with your grill set up, if it's the boat in your sig you have some creative work to do.

Not quite OEM, but it works.

Also love the Rovers, We have a '62 Series llA, my toy, and a 95 County lwb that is now my plow truck, OD is gone, but it works good for plowing.

PV - Thanks, Hot breakfast sausage, rolls and coffee in the AM while fishing and brats, burgers and a beer after skiing and tubing in the afternoon is the plan for this grill. Pontoon not included, but I have seen some pretty awesome toons.

Check out some stainless steel pots (cheaper ones ;) and lids) to make a lid for your grill. You can always cut a standard stainless (or even aluminum) pot down to make a lid. Get one to ft the diameter........... or get a sheet of stainless and have it cut.

Looks good. Gives me a few ideas for the grill we picked up last week for our boat. Will also ned to do some fabricating to get it mounted.

Bob, you and I seem to think alike, I will be looking around for a cheap substitute. I also have a large sheet of stainless that I was considering making a wind block or maybe even a top.

Magma sells replacement parts. LK

Thanks, I saw that, but they are very pricey.

Good luck with the grill and mount. I can't wait to try this one out.

PV, I had seen that one, and if I can't find a cheap solution I might get it, Thanks for looking.

Does anyone that has this model use the lid or do you just use it for a wind block like they show in the instruction manual?

Universal phenomenon. I think we've all been there.

Water here tends to be too rough to comfortably BBQ on the boat itself. We do occasionally run over to the state park/marina where we'll cook in the dining area. Some carry a Magna, some like the Weber 'Q' units (they really are good). For the few times a season we actually boat and BBQ, I've taken to carrying a disposable $5. BBQ. They actually work pretty well and don't take up room on the boat.

i found a folding grille at wal-mart or k-mart, i don't use it on the boat but its great for the shore or beach.and it takes very little space when not in use

Re: Found a grill for my boat

I did a little shopping on flea bay and ended up buying a complete Magma charcoal grill. The top fit my grill perfectly. $35.00 delivered.

Also nice to have a mini charcoal grill for camping if needed.

Supposed to be 82 on Saturday, Trying to get the family motivated to go boating, and hopefully brats and burgers.

Ended up spending $50.20 for the whole setup, pretty happy with the whole deal.

Re: Found a grill for my boat

You got me thinking about food for this weekend, thanks :) I bought one that just sits on the top of the engine cover in the back. I'm putting some rubber feet on it to keep it from sliding as much but most our grilling is in calm conditions and no wake zones.

nothing like a hot juicy burger with some fresh lettuce and tomato on it when out on the water. Also like you, bacon and eggs are a favorite for morning breakfast when fishing early. Corn beef hash is a quik sell also. anything that is in a can can be heated up on the grill as well, baked beans etc. Cheers. :)

I carry two 14" weber-style charcoal grills. It's really nice to have the capability to cook while out on the water, but I haven't been able to get my head around actually cooking "on the boat". I always set the grills up on the beach.

cr, I wouldn't want charcoal on the boat. Mine hangs over the gunnel. Many of the smaller lakes round here don't have beaches where you can go a shore. If you did it might be considered trespassing.
