found a small crack by exhaust! any concern? ANYBODY

1987 force 85 hp. Found a small 1/2 inch crack in lower unit by the exhaust. There is bolt located inside the exhaust, it looks like somebody over tighten and cracked it around the bolt area. There appears to be no water concern getting into the lower unit itself because the crack is inside the exhaust area. Any water getting into the crack, will exit the exhaust and vise/versa . Looks like the crack has been there for a while and the motor runs well. Can you weld that some how? or any other alternatives.

Look for a reply by Frank Acampora to a recent question someome had. I beleive he talked about welding on these engines and how the metals were cast, I beleive it was just in the last day or two if I'm not mistaken! max!

Call a local welding shop in your area and tell them what you have to be welded and see what they have to say about it! max!

Talked to local welder and he said that its probably aluminum and can be welded
but if cast NO,! will warp and make it worse. I think its aluminum, magnet does not stick to it. He has a mobile unit and will check it out later today.

I had this problem and used JB Weld not the right way but believe it or not it help up for 3 years with 2-3 times a week use...Hope this helps...Clean it really well...and let set up for 36hours..
