Re: Found a whole mess 'o morel mushrooms right in my backyard!
Reporting back per JB's request...my wife picked up some prime filet mignons from Costco, so I opted for morels & steak (morels & fresh brook trout sounds good too BlkY2k, but I didn't get a chance to do any fishing).
So I cut the morels in half and soaked them in salt water for abut an hour, as I read online to do. I cooked up most of the morels in a pan with some butter and cracked pepper, real simple to experience the morel flavor alone. I also tried coating some of the morel halves in olive oil and grilling them since I grilled the steaks. One word- PHENOMENAL. That is my favorite way to cook morels now. Wish I would have grilled more of the morels, but I didn't think it was going to work out that well. I gave my wife one of the grilled morels to try it and she didn't hate it, but she said she "didn't like the texture"...that's ok, more for me!
I also picked up some Michigan asparagus from Long's Farm nearby to round out the meal, that I grilled up with the filets. Was so good I didn't even bother with a baked potato:
The next morning I made a morel, asparagus and steak omlette:
Life is good
