Wishful thinking! I certainly hope not.
Edit: unless coupler bolt as mentioned elsewhere... For some reason I was/am thinking that the coupler bolt was sae even on the metric block.
I do believe there's an inspection port on the flywheel cover though.

Good news - all three coupler bolts are still in.
Better news! Found it! It was the 3rd bolt holding the power steering pump to the bracket.

WHEW!

As usually, thanks for your assistance!
Pleased you found it , that sort of thing can nag at you bad enough to ruin time on the water🙂

Mercury-Mercruiser 10-40001188 SCREW, (M10 x 20), Pump Mounting Brace has been superseded to a new part number 10-40001189 SCREW (M10 x 20).

Once in a while I explore the nether regions of my boat's bilge with the inspection camera and a magnetic pick up tool. I was surprised that I didn't find more stuff than I did! No tools and just a few washers and wingnuts.

Your boat has apparently been running too well.

I've found enough hardware in my bilge over the years to dress a whole other motor. And enough tools to make it happen.
Ha ha I guess you wouldnt need to be buying many fishing sinkers....just have a rummage round in your bilge for something 😁😁
