The problem is the water pump will not prime when on the muffs but does fine when the boat sits in the water, so I am thinking air leak somewhere...I disconnected the suction hose from the pump and backflowed water down the hose toward the outdrive and water is pouring out from where the upper part of the suspenion fork meets the intermediate housing (where it swivels). So my question is what is actually leaking and how do i fix it? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Motor - 1997 GSI
Outdrive - DP-A2

There is a bushing in the fork, but I have never seen one go bad enough to cause it to leak like that. I would suspect a bad seal or corroded hose connector on top of the H fork.
I would suggest you remove the upper gear box, and the hose connection and inspect the bushing, seal, and sealing surface of the fork.

Thanks Don, The seal that you are referring to, is that part# 872755? The hose connecter is fine, no water coming from where it meets the "H" fork.

Just a follow up.... I removed the hose connector and gasket and both were in bad shape, cleaned up sealing surfaces with a wire brush and replaced both parts - problem solved! I didn't realize that gasket has an O-ring made into it. Thanks again Don!
