My upcoming projects are 2 150's i bought for 200 bucks

One is a 1981 head, other 1985. I know the year cuttoff for vro. Each has mechanical old style pumps on em. For some reason the 1981 has only 1. 1985 has 2 as there should be.

All these are 388555 and 1 is 438559. I know they superces to that last pn.

My question is under brp diagrams for specifically 1983, it does show a fuel pump rebuild kit pn 393103 which is available, sierra version is 18-7820. These parts appear to be correct for both the old pump pn's and latest pump 438559. And since it was listed for the original pump 388555----im wondering if this kit can be used on all these pumps including the latest pn?

Initially i read there was no kit for these type pumps

Believe I got my answer: Attached is some info if it can help anyone.

On MarineEngine website parts look up....it says this :

0393103 - ""Please note this kit is for the EARLY STYLE FUEL PUMP KITS ONLY. The early pumps have the "shoulder" on the the top as you can see in the gasket outline. If you have a newer replacement pump without that shoulder this kit will NOT work"".

So, It appears there is no rebuild kit for the new style pumps that are just Triangular at the top vs the older ones with the "shoulders". So for my old ones these should work, and they are only 12-15 bucks. I'll give em a try. Still some used old style ones out on ebay etc, for cheap. Seems reasonable to rebuild them as the cost of new is near $100.00ea.

The factory never made any fuel pump repair kits for the diaphragm fuel pumps for their crossflow V6 engines. That has to tell you something. Other companies may make them, but not OMC nor Bombardier. The 393103 is a fuel pump repair kit for the 85-140 hp V4 engines 1978 thru 1983. (also some of the old 2, 3-cyl engines.) Not the correct one. Stick with a new pump, instead of trying to overhaul it.

Thanks EMD.....Yea, Agreed. I just read some more posts and on some other sites too....Not worth trying to mess with it. One less headache for me when I start into these motors.

Thanks for the sanity check

Why not take them apart for inspection.-----OK they may be " old " but may work very well.---Not much goes wrong with them.
