Got a guy that has three boats with two motors that were abandoned on a freind of his property. The boats are no good but I am interested in the motors...Evinrude 40 and a Johnson 70 they are free for the taking and he says they have no paperwork on any of the stuff...as far as I know paperwork is not needed for a motor...I am just wanting something to tinker on in my spare time. My question is the paperwork, enlighten me on this a little.

Some states do require paperwork, most do not. We won't know what to tell you though cuz you don't have your location in your profile (hint, hint).

I would think any 40 or 70 would be well worth tinkering with.

They of course depend on the model.

A 40hp selectic shift is sometimes hard to sell running.

Being free you cant go wrong. Let us know what you got.

Sounds like a win win to me. Either you get 2 motors that need minor work. Or if the motors are a total basket cases, should at least be worth some extra beer money partin them out on fleabay or clist....

As far as the paper work that you may need (depending on your state), may be as simple as visiting the licensing authority that issues the paperwork and see what they can do for you since the motors are abandoned. I would assume this process may take a few weeks, as that authority would probably want to make sure the motors you have aren't "hot".

I can't even find a 70hp Johnnyrude to buy LOL. Good luck to ya, if you're in Michigan I will buy the 70 if it runs.:)

Up here in the wild north we dont have any ownerships for motors at all. Just for our trailers and boats.
