What is the best engine a 2 stroke or 4 stroke for a 50-75hp engine?

iwould take a 2 stroke any time over a 4 stroke the reasons less weight, quicker out of the hole, easier to work on, not as many parts to fail. thats just my opinion

Check the BRP site for the 2 stroke Evinrude Etec.Check the testimonials and actual specs.comparisons.Etec makes a 2 cylinder 240 lb 40,50and 60 hp.and a 3 cylinder 320lb 75 and 90 hp.If I was thinking 75 hp I think I would go with the 90 at the same weight.If I was thinking 60-75 hp I'd give the 60 some thought at a relatively light 240lbs.
As far as motor quality 2 and 4 stroke are pretty close.Although keep in mind the service interval for the 4 stroke is higher and more involved than the 2 strokes.Be sure you have a properly trained stocking, servicing dealer.BRP appears to have their dealers up to speed.It is fairly easy to do a srearch on the net to compare various boat/motor combinations.
The Etec has the highest EPA and CARB rating of any outboard also I believe it is the only 2 stroke approved for Lake Tahoe.

That's true. You do have to change the oil and filter every 100 hours or so on a 4 stroke. Outside of that, pretty much the same routine as 2 strokes. The Etec promotes no dealer service for 3 years or 300 hours, but I would at least change the lower unit fluid every year. Other than that, the smaller HP Etec engines have done very well with few problems and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one depending on your application...
