I'm looking for a boat for my family and last night went to check out Four Winns
1993 180 freedom It has 4.3 v6 engine on it with 440 hours. Is it true that OMC Cobra 4.3 V6 usually run for 600 hours and needs major repair? He was asking $5300 for it, is it good price?

thanks for help

Re: Four Winns 1993 180 Freedom

I have that exact boat currently, though im in the process of getting something bigger as we boat on a big lake.

My 02....

Pros
-Good quality boat, built well
-Plenty of power with the 4.3, with good fuel economy
-Drive is good, though they need to be adjusted correctly otherwise will cause lots of problems.
-I think its a heavy boat for an 18 footer, which is good as it has a nice ride quality to it

We get beat up on weekend days as our lake gets busy so thats no fun. I've had no problems with the boat itself, though I did have to replace the engine due to previous owner neglect. Ultimatley, the boat will only be as good as the previous owner took care of it.

I think the price is a little high, though it depends on your local market, the shape its in, hours on the motor, maintenace done, etc. I know when I list mine it will be much cheaper than that but its not in perfect condition.

There may be a parts supply issue as OMC/BRP dropped the I/O line.

I have that same boat but with the outboard instead of the I/O. It's a good, well built boat. It it really "low slung" (freeboard?) so you will really feel close to the water. It doesn't handle the chop all that well. I added Smart Tabs and that helped a lot. Room in the cockpit is a bit tight but we seat four comfortably.

The price is in line with what I have seen out there. I paid $1700 for mine but much of the wood parts were rotted and had to be replaced (luckily not the transom or stringers - just the seat bases and trim).

Be sure you are prepared for that OMC engine/drive. A search on this site will give you all the issues with it - biggest being it isn't made anymore and parts/service are hard to get.
