I just purchased a 1999 Four Winns 245 Sundowner which I will be picking up this weekend. In the cuddy it has a sink and connections for a porti-potti. I am curious on how the water system works on this boat. When I looked at the fuse panel I saw a slot for the water system (forgot how it was labelled), but there was no fuse or wire connected. Based on this, can anyone tell me how water would come from the faucet? It had a turnable knob. Also, how would the porti-potti work if we connected to the waste tank?

One last question. Does anyone know how big the fresh water tank and waste tank is on this boat? Thanks a lot!

Re: Four Winns 245 Sundowner Water System

Everything you wanted to know about your boat. Check the 'specs' and 'owners manual' sections:

According to FW your boat has a 7-gallon fresh water tank mounted on the port side of the boat under the engine hatch. There should be a toggle switch for the pump next to the sink. Typically, when you activate the pump you'll hear it run for a few seconds while it pressurizes the system. Then it shuts itself off. When you open the faucet, water flows, pressure drops and the pump comes on as long as water is flowing. One thing to watch- if you run the tank dry the pump will keep running as it keeps trying to pressurize the system. Get in the habit of turning the switch on only when you need water, then turning it off again.

If you have a porta-pottie, you don't have a waste tank. That type of toilet is designed to be removed from the boat for emptying. You'd need to change out the toilet, and add a tank and all the plumbing to make that work. A funtioning pump-out toilet with waste tank was an option on that boat, so which setup do you have?

Read the docs- they're very informative. Good luck with the boat!
