What years and models did they offer the option of an outboard, a stern drive, and a jet drive? I am interested in trying to find a jet model. Anyone know anything about them in terms of performance and reliability?

Jets:

I have only ever seen two modern Four Winns with a jet that weren't Flings.

I don't think they were even in the catalogs. I'm pretty sure they must have been special order only. I think both that I have seen were 94 or 95 17' Freedom/Horizon models.

Outboards:

Four Winns offered outboards on a lot of boats and designs up to 1998. After that only the 17 and 18 foot bowriders had the option of an outboard. 2004 was the last year you could get an outboard from Four Winns.

Sterndrives:

Four Winns offered sterndrives pretty much always. They had a preference for Mercruiser up until 1987-1988 at which time OMC bought the company. After that they were OMC only until 1996 when the OMC-Volvo Penta joint venture led to the VP SX outdrive. Under Genmar Four Winns is again offering Mercruiser and Volvo Penta.

The information on the iboats specs is innacurate and misleading. It is really no more useful than what you can get on the NADA website.

Besides it makes no mention of the non Fling jet boat from what I can tell. That is what the original poster was asking about.

The best resource is the Four Winns website. They have all of there old catalogs on their site.

I know one of the magazines years ago did a test on a Four Winns that could be ordered 3 different ways; stern drive, outboard, jet drive. I don't remember what magazine it was though. I have emailed Lakeland boating to see if it was them, just waiting for a response now.
