28 January 2008 was my last day of work. Wow, it's been a fast four years. I called a night shift co-worker and chatted with him and he told me I left at the right time. The pharmacy chain I worked at has lost a major insurance plan and Rx volume is down 40% at some stores. There is talk of laying off pharmacists, a thing unheard of while I was working.

I could see some of the changes coming and that was also a factor in my decision to leave. I don't regret my choice at all.

Health and finances are still in good order and I enjoy my free time.

Y'all keep working so I can receive my monthly social security check that I am now eligble for.:D

Tyme, I hate you!:p Congrats on your 4 year quiterment! Glad you are enjoying yourself and rubbing it in to the rest of us!;) I'll keep working for ya, and maybe one day we can meet up and wet a line together.

Re: Four year anniversary of my quiterment

I was 6 months behind you--when my company "retired" anyone over 55 years old and 25+ years on the job. Oh, well--they paid me for a year before going into retirement. I didn't have time to work anyway--with a 4 year old to help me on job tasks.

Enjoy your retirement. Rest assured that your favorite customers are being served by 60+ year old pharmacists that used to own their own pharmacies and got bought out. I hear nothing but complaints--with the big National companies holding them and the Pharmacy Techs to 32 hours per week.

I don't see where there's any reduction in prescription volume. Anyway it goes, it takes me 45 minutes to get medicine--due to chronic shortage of qualified manpower. The drug chains are forcing their pharmacists to give a bunch of different immunizations--something few pharmacists are really qualified to do in the first place. It just screws up their pace on the prescription desk--poor customer service.

Remember, you can always fill in for the independent pharmacists' days off--if you get lonely.
