foward/neutral/and no reverse....

i just had the leg off thinking that wires were not conected, so thew were and i was just woundering if its possiable that i can have foward and netural but no reverse. do you ppl think that its somthing in the leg ? or could i have the wireing wrong on the push button b/c my netural is the foward button and foward is the netural and reverse button oh yea buy the way i have a 1970 rude 85 h/p selectect shift thanks you guys have ancerd alot of questions that keep me in the water i am verry thankfull.....:confused:

With the key on check the voltages at the wires where they go down to the L/U. In neutral there should be 12V on the green. In forward there should be no voltage on green and blue. In reverse there should be 12V on green and blue.

If I read the question properly, you have the wrong switch. You aren't going to like the rest of the news: Sounds like the wrong switch has busted the reverse clutch spring.

Reason: pushing the reverse button (on the wrong switch) causes the motor to go into both forward and reverse gears at the same time. Since it is impossible for the propeller to rotate in two directions at the same time, something has to bust. In your case, it was the clutch.
