I'm stumped...
boat originated from arizona - owners card present
numbers match arizona card on bow

HULL ID#
usje61mfe989

now I'm looking at online pics and some pics of other members boats claiming the 1989 1700 xr title on here but my boat looks NOTHING like these other boats.

Controls... I've got 5 switches on the left side... steering wheel and a speedo and fuel guage. Thats all.
online everyone has a plethora of guages and well it would seem my maxum has lost all its lipstick lol.

also the bow seating section is alot higher with less backrest then what I'm seeing in others pics.

I'm not sure what to do at this point... honestly I'd just like to know everything is as it should be.

might have to hunt down the original owner.... calling mr. M craver from Lake Havasu City....

usj is the ID code for Bayliner. Quantum boats used the MIC for a little while too. I think the Quantums were typically a dark grey color.

Sorta'. Max was a subsidiary of Brunswick, and some of the boats were re-badged Bayliners (think Ford Crown Vic and Mercury Marquis). But I don't think all of them were.

According to the lists though, Maxums didn't have a a USJ Mic in their hull IDs. There weren't many color options on Maxums in '89 - grey and burgundy was about it. What color is your boat? Got any photos?

ok so there you have it... I payed 1400 for my supercharger and traded for everything u see here. trailer, boat and motor... just needs wiring done and I just finished cleaning the carbs and she's 35mph flat out.

Top of my list is figuring out what to call her.
Then finding out how she's supposed to be dressed up.

So if anyone can help I'm most appreciative.

Not sure what you want to know. I did a search for 1989 Maxums on Boat trader and I see boats with the exact color scheme as yours.

^^^ Oh yeah, that's a Maxum ... with a Johnson instead of a Force, to boot!

That particular Maxum is pretty much a badged Bayliner. Outboard Maxum will be scant on gauges, so if you're seeing dashes from the I/Os they'll be different for sure. Your dash looks about right for what ya' got. Both the Maxum and the Bayliner of that size had pretty shallow bowriders (they're not the only ones by a long shot), so that's probably pretty normal too.

Color scheme from what I can see is about original.

Re: frankenboat? What do I have?

well thats good to know. thx

I believe the original force had become more value as a boat anchor then a motor when my previous owner had it.
he bought the 135 johnson and played with the carbs and somehow managed to get gasket into both jets feeding the right cylinders and also managed to double up jets on one cylinder which in turn made it run lean and never got the boat over 10mph.

anyways good to know shes not far from looking good and running hard.

Force seems to be a "luck of the draw" outboard. You could wind up with a really bad one, but I've heard of quite a few good ones too. I'd avoid them as a rule, but never say never ... heck, I've got an electric shift Stringer.

That prop looks a little beaten up.

You definitely want to think about a new prop, as from the one pic the one you have looks rather chewed up. Probably help yourself in the top MPH realm.

I like "trading" for stuff, so extra hats off for that. I don't want to hijack your thread with an unsolicited story, but quickly I've gone from a guitar to my current rig (in a long, long round about way, lol)so the merits of bartering are valuable and should be utilized by more folks. Or, they can keep ignoring it and leave all the trading to us I suppose, lol.

Congrats and welcome to iboats!

The question is, did you trade out a Les Paul for the Trophy, or a First Act for the 8' dingy? :D:D
