on our lake in b.c canada, wea are uasually blessed with fantastic boating weather. this year has been a little different.
three times so far, the wind has turned ugly in just a matter of minits, causing great damage to boaters and putting lives in peril.
july first.....(canada's fourth of july) just before the fireworks, in a boat filled area of the lake, (just in front of where the fireworks were to take place) a 40 mph wind sent 400 boats scrambling for cover
two weeks ago, a freak wind storm, came out of nowhere, approx, 30 boats were destroyed. washed up on shore, and wrecked on the rocks.
yesterday, from a dead calm, the wind hit 50 mph in a matter of minits. two boats were capsized, and more washed up on shore.

the media is down playing the seriousness of these situations, i have seen the wrecked boats and the damage.
when your boating, a quick wind can turn a great day into a real dangerous situation, and as jb says, "there is no mercy for the unprepaired"
if the wind picks up suddenly, get to shore asap. in the shelter of a cove or bay. it can save your life.
boat safe....have fun
cheers
