I have a free air sub thats about to go in my 97 searay....while i understand that the sub does not need to be in a perfect enclosure....i know that the sound from the rear of the sub cannot be allowed to reach the front of the sub, less cancel out the sound.

Question....i would like to install the sub into the wall that is the walkthru section from the bow to the back of the boat (under the windsheild).... see picture. is this location a problem since there would only be about a foot of fiberglass wall aft of the speaker that the sound could travel to the front?

or....does the sub need to go somewhere like under the bow seats?

thank you

thanks for the response......but from the speaker standpoint....is that too much of an open space that the sound would reach the front of the speaker?

this is strictly my opinion...

I would think that being in an open cockpit there would be no issues with the sound waves reaching the front of the speaker or enough to cause a problem.

I would assume that the issue you are concerned with would be in a closed environment, like inside of a car.

But, I am no sound engineer.

I install hi-end boat audio systems. It should be fine there. Wherever you install it you'll hear it. I hope you have speaker in both the bow lounge and the cockpit, else it's going to awfully rumbly in one of them.

thanks FL Richard.....I currently have two speaker boxes in the main seating area, one next to me and one on the pax side. i am planning on cutting the glass and installing 2 more up in the bow...for a total of 4 speakers (4 Kenwood 6.5in). The only other place I was gonna put the sub was under one of the front seats so it was a bit more "enclosed" if you will. But i guess either spot will do. Thanks for the advise.
