Re: Free boat from craigslist

Man, what a deal. Did it come w/the trailer? That alone is worth several hundred. Judging by the red on the upholstery and the gel coat, I'd say that the old girl's been stored in a garage for the last 21 years. Red fades super fast if left uncovered. You may have gotten lucky on the stringers/transom. I'm hoping for the best for ya!

BTW, if it becomes too much of a project for you let me know. I'll take her off your hands and pay you ten times what you gave for her!:D

So quick question..

Once i remove the out drive, I just remove all the bolt on's to the motor and the motor at the bellhousing and it comes out?

Does the bell housing stay in the boat? Thanks!

I pulled mine with the bellhousing attatched. Once the outdrive is out, you pull everything attatched to the engine, and remove it. There is two 1 1/16 nuts and a pair of bolts, I think 11/16 in the bellhousing. THen it comes right out. Took about 5 minutes once the outdrive was out and the wiring was disconnected.

so it's just those 4 bolts that the bellhousing is bolted to opposite side of the engine?

You need a manual. Mine had 2 nuts holding the engine mounts to the hull. Then there was 2 bolts that went through the bellhousing into the transom housing.(not sure that is what its called). But that was all that held it in place. Mine is a Mercruiser 5.7 though, so it may be differant. I was surprised at how easy it came out. We had a tow truck come and pull it out for us. Cost of $65, but was way easier than building a tripod or tearing up my roof trusses in the garage.

There are the two side motor mounts. One on each side, that hold the front of the engine up. Then there are two bolts that hold the rear end of the motor to the transom mounting plate. Then un hook the exhaust tubes, hoses and wires and it will lift streight up.

Once the motor is out the transom mounting plate will be left in your compartment. You will not need to do anything with it. It is bolted to the bell houseing on the outside of the boat that the drive mounts to and you can just leave it all there.

Its pretty simple.

Re: Free boat from craigslist

i have a quick question..

are there any other engines that will fit in place of my old 4.3 easily? And still be able to use a lot of the bolt on parts that i have?

Or will a 4 cyl fit in there or a 3.8 or a v8? im just curious, Thanks!

well no, maybe the exhaust and some other ganeric parts. I would stay with the 4.3. You can make anything fit and a V8 would probly be the easiest. The 4.3 should be about 190hp so stay at that or a little higher.
