Guys, I am looking for a FREE photo editing/printing software package.<br /><br />Of most importance is the ability to print several pictures on one sheet of 8.5x11 paper.<br /><br />WHat I have in mind is the ability to paste pictures on a page, and sdjust the size of all pictures, so they all fit and I maximize the use of the paper.<br /><br />Anything like this?<br /><br /><br />Ken

You could very easily use Microsoft powerpoint and arrange the pics as you see fit if you goal is only to print them. You cannot however use it to create a new image file. Powerpoint is the fartest from free but most computers that have MS office on them will have the software.<br />my 2c<br />KarricK

Like Lubedude said, but also check the disk that came with your printer. Also, check the major printer websites (cannon.com, hp.com etc), I think you can download some basic formatting software for free. The printer folks like to give free software so you drain those print cartridges dry in a hurry!

What is your computer? If you have an older computer with under a full gig chip, you might want to get a faster computer.<br /><br />When I had my old 700 Pentium II it would take like forever to print after I hit the button, and sometimes it would lock up using Photoshop 5. And Windows XP is a much better program for pictures.

From Here... <br />
The Gimp is a graphics processing program similar in function to Photoshop and PaintShop. The big difference is that it's free, the others cost big bucks. But don't think free means limited. On the contrary this product can read multiple formats, has filters, textures and color effects to burn and can even handle layers. The latest version, V2.2, is excellent and a huge improvement over its predecessors. The interface is better, drop and drag now works between most applications and there are many more previews. It's a big step forward though it's fair to say the product is still less than intuitive to use. Note you need the 6.9 MB GTK Runtime Environment 2.4.14 or later installed (see second link below) before you install The Gimp. That's just another complication in a complex install procedure that confounds beginners and can even confuse experienced users. If The Gimp just doesn't do it for you then do yourself a favor and check out Paint.net. It's an amazingly sophisticated piece of work from computer science students at Washington State University that's just about as powerful as The Gimp but a lot easier to use and install. It is however only for Windows 2000 and you'll need Microsoft's bulky .NET framework installed on your PC.

Neither GIMP 2 or Picasa2 worked on my Win 98 machine. Picasa2 mediadetector cause computer to hang, GIMP had the good old "page fault".<br /><br />Ken

Ken, I use adobe photodeluxe 3.0 for photo editing and body switching and stuff like that. You can pick up a copy on eBay for around $10 and it works great with windows 95/98.
