Titles probably givin the ending away already
But here goes.
I woke up this morning before everyone in the house so I scoured the web for fishing gear and random stuff like I usually do to kill time
Then I went one Facebook and one one of the boat pages someone posted a fairly vague description "free 15 horse evinrude" something along those lines. So I shot him a message but he said someone was on the way to get it. So I left it figured it would be gone forsure a couple hours later he messaged again saying he still had it and it was fcfs so I headed that way still thinking I might miss out.
It's missing the prop but otherwise complete
I got it home and just for the fun of it plugged in a fuel tank and ripped the cord. IT CANE TO LIFE it idles good revs good shifts good. But the pee hole was only dribbling.
I've ordered a prop and an impellor kit for it so far
I'll play around with it a bit

Thought I'd share today's find
(Gunna attempt pics I haven't tried since the Photobucket thing)

Good find! Try cleaning out the tell tale with a length of weed wacker string while it's running and check the gear case oil.

I wouldn't run it until you get the new impeller in place. There is obviously rust around the top plug. While waiting for parts, I would spray some lube around the plug, then try to take it out for inspection. Take a flashlight and look into the cylinder and see if there is rust in there. Assuming it looks normal in both cylinders, squirt a little lube into each and turn the engine clockwise by hand.

The rust may be a storage issue, but might be a leak from a water passage. (The t.stat is down at the bottom, and the head cover has to come off to get at it or to inspect the t.stat cover and gasket. If it's a salty, lube up the bolts first and move carefully, if you remove the head cover.) Do a compression test as a first step, and make a note of the readings. If compression is good, clean it up. Replace plugs and impeller, and try it in a barrel -- water about half way up the leg. Get an adjustable spark tester at an auto store (cheap), and look for 7/16" crisp spark.

Good find.

I haven't had much time to play with it. Lower is removed now and impeller itself looked alright. But the rubber boot that goes into the water tube is all tore up so I'm glad I ordered the whole kit

2 of the 6 bolt holes were stripped slightly when removing the lower. Might drill and tap them

Prop is on the way.

And I did manage to do a compression check today
Just under 125 psi on both holes

Thanks

All sounds good. Drain the gear oil and check for water (milky appearance). Get a couple of washers for the drain/vent plugs, and a pump for refilling the gear case -- makes the job easier.
