Opps I missed a drain on the block last fall. I drained the ehaust manifolds and disconnected the bottom water hose from the water pump last fall, but I missed the one on the block. 1985 5.7 Alpha One mercruiser. I noticed 2 of the freeze plugs fell out. Anyone get lucky before and replaced the plugs with no cracks in the block before?

Yep, got lucky once on a race motor that didnt get drained in time.
Pop a new one in and see how you did. There are rubber ones that tighten just like the drain plug in the transom, but they can also pop back out when you least expect it. If you use one of these, add checking it to the to-do list before you go out evey time until you get it replaced with a good one.

Snap-on makes a fancy toll for installing real plugs that is angled and works well. If you got that kind of cake anyway.

Praise The Lord! My block seems to be fine! :D I took it out today and ran it cruising at about 2800 rpm and also held it at 4000rpm for about 3 min. Temp stayed normal and no water in my oil. Is there anything else I should be concerned with?

I'd be concerned if I didn't buy a lottery ticket today! j/k
The plugs did their job, just don't test them again this winter! If you used the rubber, temp plugs, check them regularly.

The plugs did their job

Um, That's NOT their job!!

They're CORE plugs. They're there for facilitating the casting process.

They have nothing to do with freeze damage protection. You are just very...LUCKY you didn't get any freeze damage.

Cheers,

Rick
