Have 2005, 200hp HPDI with 680hrs. Do alot trolling at 600 to 800 RPMs. Have reviewed a number of post about fouling plugs with HPDI mostly at 1100 to 1600 RPM's. I have had problems with this since the beggining and use ring free. If I replace the plugs or clean them they foul after about 12 hours. The 1st sign is a very slight delay in starting, with increased use, the delay gets longer and longer. Its never been hard to start. Last year at the recommendation of the YCM, I increased my ratio of ring free, 1oz to 8g'fuel and went to a lower octane fuel(87) was 89. It made no difference. I am trying Lucas fuel treatment at 3oz to 10g/fuel and have not seen any improvements. Any thoughts?

have you seen this post?

Could be related to:
O2 sensor output
test the red plug caps
check the fuel pump diaphragms
remove and inspect the t-stats for debris and proper operation.
check the recirc valve nipples
inspect the oil pump drive shaft seal for leakage, normally a leaking pump
check the linkage syncronization
check the TPS setting as per the tech bulliten and make sure the ign coils have gray connectors not black.

Re: Frequent plug fouling with 200 hpdi

Cousinable, I did read that post, most of the tec stuff I didn't understand. When I went to pick up the boat this week the YCM told me he tested the o2 sensor and it was fine. A few questions, is frequent fouling of plugs in a 200 hpdi that is runs frequently at low rpms a common problem and something I have to put up with? Or is it symtomactic of a bigger problem that needs to be addressed?I think I just found one of the problems, the dealer replaced the spark plugs the last time and used bkr6eku not bkr7eku which is recommended. Model #Z200TXRD. I am tired of having to check the checker!
That's it for YCM!

I would schedule a visit to Fairwinds to make sure your motor has all of the tech bulletin updates and what plugs should be used.

Cousinable, I will call fairwinds, just going to have to put off for awhile. Just spent $750 and $500 before that. If I spend anymore right now, I think my wife might remove some of my important anatomical parts. Is there a place I can go to review tec bulletins on my HPDI?

By the way, Rockfish are still stacked up where I told you about. They were there Wed but wouldn't bite. There's a very bad red tide right now. Caught one and lost one!
