I've had cable problems with our 1993 Rinker for the past 10 years we've owned it.The cables I'm using are the standard Teleflex cables that go from the Quicksilver single handle controls to the carb and shift rocker mechanism on the exhaust riser. I have them routed the same as the factory did with no sharp bends, and as far from the exhaust as I possibly can. I had one cable fail in 3 weeks once, and it's replacement is now bad again 3 years later. The only thing I can come up with is a water problem. The motors frequently "sweat" in the summer. Could the moisture in the engine bay be causing my cables to go bad all the time? Is there anything I can do about it short of spending $150 every couple of years to replace the cables?

Also, is there any chance I can lube the cables? I know replacement is the normal fix, but money is getting tight after replacing both transom assemblies this spring and my knee is not being cooperative enough to make me want to go crawling around to fish another 4 pack of cables through the boat again.
