Hi,

Im thinking in converting my 8.1 GIE-M Sea water cooled engines to closed loop so I wonder if anybody has had experience installing the kits offered by Volvo.

I could not get online a copy of the installations instructions (if the kits come with them) so if somebody have a copy of them I would appreciate if they could be shared. (My email is xixp@outlook.com).

Thanks in advance

If you can follow directions and understand that righty is tightly, you can install a heat exchanger.

If the motor has any salt water time on it, the damage is already done. If its a freshwater only boat, then you're good to go.

It had 80 hours of fresh water use but Ive put 120 hours of salt water use flushing the engines right after every use with Salt Away.
I guess I will wait until replacing the risers & manifold to find out the engines shape to decide.

Before you buy the OEM Volvo kit, you might have a look at teh following: Fresh Water Kits

And maybe speak to someone at San Juan Engineering. San Juan Engineering Bellingham, WA, 98226 - YP.com They might be many $ cheaper. San Juan seems to be one of the best systems out there.

The "rule of thumb" is 100hrs salt exposure (or don't do it) San Juan tech support can tell you. I don't think they sell them directly. you have to buy the systems from their retailers. I purchased mine from OceanEast (above) ..........it was shipped directly from San Juan in Bellingham, Wa.

My engine was a 1997 Mercruiser 7.4L with 120 hours (non-salt)

Cheers,

Rick
