Fresh water flushing; which is better muffs or adapter port?

Is there a concensus on which is better using muffs or the adapter outlet at the back of the cowl?

I've always found the adaptor to be easier to use. Plus you don't have to worry about the muffs slipping off and you not noticing it.

The advantage of the adaptor is that you don't need to start the engine, smoke up the neighborhood and wake every infant on the block. It is also easier.

The advantage of the muffs and hose is that it flushes everything more thoroughly.

If your environment permits it without disrupting the neighborhood, the muffs are the better choice.
