fresh water intake

does anyone know if an aftermarket inline filter that can be installed inline with the water intake to screen any debrie that might be sucked up in the intake. something to stop it from getting into the engine. i have a merc 120 staight 4 and just want to protect the motor. thanks guys...Dan

Bigger motors with the belt driven raw water pumps are capable of using a strainer pot, but I doubt your drive's pump could handle that. Besides, a clogged strainer will do much more harm than good. Look where the water is taken in. Nothing larger is going to pass. What can pass will go right thru and out the exhaust. Except for sand that can settle in the block. But even then, it takes a lot of sand to become a problem.
