We are in an exceptional drought here,

Must be the whole midatlantic region. My Aunt and Uncle came up from Fla for their annual visit and to see the foliage change. They were very disappointed. Leaves are just turning brown and dropping and those with color are very muted.

There is no water here at my normal lake either, not enough to safely go out on. Which is Falls, but Kerr is so much bigger it had plenty of water.

It was gorgeous up there this time of year, I might try to get a few more trips up there, even if its just for cruising and no swimming.

Kerr and Gaston are fed from the mountains. The local lakes here (Hyco and Mayo) are in bad shape. Glad you had a good time on Kerr.

Yep, it definately dry down here too. Kerr is just so big, 39 miles long and 50,000 acres, that it has too be realy dry for a really long time for it to get real bad.

I heard that Falls Lake in Raleigh/Durham is at it lowest level in its history. I crossed Jordan Lake today and its gotta be the lowest ever also.

If it's any consolation, Tar / pamlico has lots of water in it... it's brackish all the way up to the tar, but we've had good luck putting in anywhere from Washington area, Blounts creek, South Creek (right in Aurora - absolutely beautiful piece of water, 10 miles or so puts you in the Pamlico), and have alot of friends going to Hobucken, and also down to the Neuse.

In aurora / South Creek, the ramp is rigt in town, there's not much salt once you nget that far back up the "creek" so the motor grte flushed pretty well (I still do once get home) and there's an old coin operated car wash right after you get out... Over the past several weekends, I think I've not seen more than a half a dozen trucks or so in the parking lot there... Tar up by Washington is 20 or so min closer to rtp area, up the Tar is nice, down pamlico is too, but shallow and wide - much wind at all and it's a rough ride on a smaller boat..

Just fyi...

Blue Ridge - I've been down 501 a few time this summer, and I always keep an eye on that farm with all geese right on the road. They have a damn on the west side of the road and usually that keeps two nice little ponds. I watched it drop and drop, now they are using those blue plastic wading pools for the geese.

I pass that pond twice daily. I have seen it empty twice before. In 1996 is emptied after the dam broke thanks to Fran. It emptied in 2002 I think also because of a drought. Notice the Little River Lake just south of Bahama. It could be at its lowest level in history.

The treehuggers stated we would have all these hurricanes due to global climate change. Where are they?

It kills me to see those big nice boats stuck in the mud.Think of all the boats that won't get winterized..
.

Sounds like there will be some cheap fixer-uppers on the market next season!

I was just in Lake Anna, VA over this past weekend. Levels were definitely severely low, but still very navigable.

You could also check out South Holston Lake just outside of Bristol, TN/VA. It's right off of I-81, and about halfway between the two of you. If you get bored with the lake, there's always the Birthplace of Country Music Museum and the Bristol Motor Speedway to check out. Plenty of other things to do, too.
