[h=2]Friday chores accomplished[/h] Important things I accomplished today:
I took the catfish out of the iced cooler and got them all filleted and placed in a freezer bag.

I've been having some issues with my trailer lights so I decided to tackle that problem. I checked the main ground wire and removed it from the trailer, sanded the contact edges and reinstalled. Same problem was still occurring so I needed to investigate further. With the left turn signal on, both taillights were flashing the turn signal. ??? Guess it's up to the person behind me to guess which way I'm turning. I traced the ground wire through the wiring harness to an old splice I had made and discovered a loose connection. Repaired that and now all is well and my trailer lights are nice and bright and now you don't have to guess which way I plan on turning . Brake lights, running lights, and turn signals are now working.

The side plate on my newest reel was loose. Probably from all those huge fish I've been catching recently. I got out my specialty screwdriver kit and tightened the screws and that is another problem solved.

I then decided to re-spool the reel that the line broke on while reeling in a fish yesterday. I got out my handy dandy line removal gizmo that rapidly removes the old line from the spool. Hey, it's a toy I own so I decided to use it. I then tied a perfect Albright knot to connect the backer line I left on the reel to the new 17 Lb Trilene I was using to re-spool. Oops, I somehow forgot to get the line under the bail so I had to cut the knot and try again. Success this time.

Now it's time to go to Krogers and purchase 35 gallons of gas with my 60 cent/gallon discount. I've got four of my 5 gallon cans in the bed of the truck and with the F-150 at half a tank that should top out at my 35 gallon limit on the discount.

I'll probably stop at the Adult Beverage Store and get a bottle for the Mrs. and one for myself. Since she mixes her bourbon with coke she doesn't get the good stuff.

So, how was your Friday??

Sounds much better then my day of sitting in the office, all day long...

Oops, I somehow forgot to get the line under the bail so I had to cut the knot and try again.

Like I haven't done that one before

Next time... remove spool from reel, open bail, reinstall spool...
(quicker than re-tying an Albright)

I've had to do that a time or two, or three

Thanks for that tip. Didn't know you could do it that way. But dang I was sure I had the line under the bail correctly. At least I got some practice in tyeing the Albright knot.

Re: Friday chores accomplished

Practice makes perfect :D I usually get to "practice" my knots when I forget to put the line through the top eyelet of the rod, or miss an eyelet. Then of course, the knot I had to cut off was perfect, but the one I re-tied was buggered up, so I have to cut it off and re-tie again... :faint2: OR,,, I'll be trimming the tag end off and nip off the main line instead...

Oh, and for my Friday. Wife said the garage door was really hard to open, so now I get to go out and replace a door spring...

Overhead springs that are along side the door? Replace as a pair. Don't ask me how I know.

As noted by Tyme2fish, replace as a pair. Also be VERY careful! Those springs pack a lot of kinetic energy when stretched and can cause serious injury or death if that energy is released in a bad way. It's not rocket surgery, but you do have to follow the proper procedure.

Re: Friday chores accomplished

Thanks T2F, NBYo.

Door has 4 springs, 2 along each jamb. I replaced one pair and have a spare for when one on the other side blows up. Seems I have 1 spring go out every 5 years or so... Easy replacing them as almost all the tension is released when the door is up, (not the kind you have to wind up to tension).

2 hours hunting down the springs, then 10 minutes replacing them...

Sounds like you're an old pro at the job. There is no danger if you raise the door to relieve the tension AND run a cable or rope through the center of the spring and secure it (so it doesn't fall on your head when you detach the spring).

Re: Friday chores accomplished

Man o man, Tyme, I got weary just reading all that and had to sit down and have a toddy. Yeah, I've done all the line tricks and added a special one of my own. My brother and I were bass fishing using 12" worms in a lot of standing and submerged timber. The line was getting pretty scuffed so time for a retie. I was going to a lighter worm weight so I took the bullet off, too. Tied the hook on and realized I hadn't put the weight on. Cut the hook off, put the weight on and tied up again. Still didn't look right. I'd put the bullet on upside down. Of course, by now there was a lot of "helpful advice" and "encouragement" being shouted from the back of the boat.
