Fried coils

I replaced two coils on my 33hp Johnson and tried to start it and one of the coils started to smoke. I looked at the contact and the contact that went to the cooked coil was alot worse then the coil that didn't smoke. <br />So what do I need to do now. Any advise would be a great help.

Sure seems to me you may have fed battery voltage to your coil.

Thanks steelespike! Can you tell me how I may have done that? Is it the sillynod(spelling haha)?<br />Anyway bout to give up and see if how much it will cost for the local boat man to fix it. I just wanted to see if I had the brains to do it myself. <br /><br />I now know why they call them outboards! <br />Cause your better off working on a board!
