From power trim/tilt to "manual tilt"?

My Johnson 70hp from -86 has a power trim/tilt which worked only for a few weeks last summer after replacing the trim/tilt-motor. I don't feel like replacing the motor again, so do you have a good idea for how to convert the tilt from motor to manual? The engine will of course stay in water when going in forward direction, but I fear it will go up from the water when going backward.

I would attempt to fix the trim.

Safety consideration on an unlocked engine going down the water, if you hit a submerged object that engine could be in the boat with you or worse with you and the family,

If can not fix the t-n-t then look at finding a different mid section that will allow you to lock the motor down.

There is no way your TNT motor could be shot from 1 season. What is leading you to believe this? What troubleshooting have you done?

Good point, but of course I have to lock down the engine, otherwise there's a risk it would go up of the water when going backwards.

I have removed the TNT motor and it's really not working. Maybe some water has leaked into the case and ruined it, I don't know.
