Re: Front motor mounts stripped

Thanks for all your help. I have purchased some smart tabs from IBOATS and am eagerly waiting for them to arrive. I realize this is not the problem but am hoping it will stabilize my boat for the rest of the season. This winter I am going to attempt to repair all the rotten stringers and what ever else I find. Expect to hear from me with plenty of questions and many progress reports with pictures. I will let you know how the tabs work.

A bent skeg can cause the list, too.

so can a flotation box full of water... I had that nice suprise once...

note that your front engine mounts do little more than support the engine. If the bolts are rotten, then it has likely settled or moved at least some in some way. Even if you're sure it is stable the way it is, the movement will mean your drive is now out of alignment and you have a reasonable chance of damaging the coupler or something else (like the drive itself).

the other points above about more being rotten are definatly on track. at least take the time to drill a couple of core samples in the transom from the inside (don't have to be all the way through, then fill them with marinetex, etc...

your transom takes the full torque load of the motor and depending on how bad things get can go all at once rather than a little at a time. not common, but would suck to be one of the lucky ones...
