Front Seal Oil Leak

I have a 1999 Mercruiser 5.7 L on my boat and it appears that the front seal is leaking. Looking at the Mercruiser manual it has a procedure for removing the seal with the cover still on place.

My questions are: How well does this procedure work? Can you use a standard automotive seal and tools to do the job?

Both the Seal,+ the Tools are the Same for Cars,+ Trucks,+ Boats............

Be gentle, driving that seal back in, as you can bend the cover, as it is not supported on a flat surface from the back, while it is still installed on the engine.
Don't whale on it, light tapping it in, works fine.
