Just missed frost last night. Wind came up about sunrise. Going to have to set up the irrigation in the apple orchard tonight. Next thing I'll be dealing with fire blight from all the wetness in the orchard.

Last little ice age here (70's sometime) , we had one summer with a frost every month, July and August included.

I'm gettin' too old for this. Beginning to understand why Minnesotans become Texans.

We "only" got down to 36 last night. Talking possibly record lows tonight in the 20s. It may hit 60 today and is very windy. Talking rain all weekend. Yep, this has been a crappy spring..... At this rate we're in for a cold summer.... But, our house is still standing compared to some folk's. Trying to stay positive. Hi Pauly!

No doubt it is one crazy spring and this weekends weather does not look real promising. We are still going for our annual Memorial Weekend get together which involves camping for 3 nights. This year it will involve at least some boating in the boat we just bought a few weeks back! It looks like we will have to work it in around the rain showers.

Rain, Cold, Rain, Cold, Wind, Rain, Cold, Warm, Wind, Rain, Cold..... Something is very wrong with this cycle. I'm gonna go crazy if it doest warm up soon. I want to boat, not to mention the tons of projects Im delaying because of this crap. Starting to lose hope for the summer. Anyone read the farmers almanac or anything? Are we doomed for 2011?

As I was setting up irrigation to save my blooming apple trees, I heard on the radio that the reason the chit hit the fan so bad down south is that the cold air that should be stalling and fighting with south flow here in the Midwest, spawning some severe weather, is rather below the Mason Dixon Line fighting with warm wet gulf air and spawning extreme weather. The pattern happens every time the weather takes a turn for long term colder, usually about every 30 years or so.

Actually today turned out quite nice, tho cool. I got Ol' Blue Thunder started today next to the garage. Put 6 gal of fresh fuel in painted and replaced the drive that had been off since fall cuz I had to get the top bearing replaced. I think all is good. I always sweat the first start a bit... I hope I didnt forget sumtn last fall.!!! Oil is good. No milkshake. 45 psi OP at about 900rpm, temp was perfect low 140s, no leaks, started in about 5 seconds. Im ready !!! Cept for a little pimpn"... .

Last year I planted my vegetable garden on April 1st! Granted it wasn't a smart move but it survived and did pretty good. I'm pretty sure the garden was still snow covered April 1st. At least the skeeters should take a beating. The worst part is the only decent days have been wasted working in the yard and not on the boat.

Don't forget to put a few buckets of hot rocks in the tent to keep it warm at night.

Don't use river or lake rocks though, as they can explode when you heat them in the fire pit.

This morning it is .5C 32.4F and a little bit of frost on the ground. We live in the Badlands portion of the province which normally has dry lake beds, cactus, and sand/ dust storms. This year any small depression is a lake, and there is water everywhere. Only 26% of the crops are in and it is almost June. The weather is sure strange this year.
