Oh yeah!!! That's two old OMCs brought back to life today. Spring is in the air indeed. Gotta love those old 3hp. So light, smooth and strong. Cool lookin' too. Congrats!

good job I would let it run a tank of gas through with allot of seafoam to help clean those rings. I would put like half of a thing of seafoam in with a full tank of gas and just let it sit and run until it runs out then take it apart and double check the rings

to check the rings because if the ARE stuck it will score the cylinder then piston

If it's running as good as he says it does, I don't think the rings are stuck.

yah possibly but its always better to be safe than sorry. its only some flat head screws to remove the exhaust cover again and take a peek.

I think the seafoam is a great idea, do not think the rings are frozen to the piston or there would not be the compression there is. If they are partially stuck I believe they will free up with use. Even if I took off the exhaust cover you cannot tell if rings are free. For me it is not worth tearing it all the way down. Once I get this on a boat is the only real way to see how much power it has. With a foot of snow being predicted tonight and tomorrow it will be some time before I get this on a boat.

When you take off the exhaust cover you can push on the rings to see if they spring back.--Easy to check.

exactly its better to have piece of mind because if they are stuck it will cause big problems

Put some fogging oil in the cylinders if you're going to leave it sit for awhile.
