Wonderful. You may not need a new float, unless the old one is in pieces, but it doesn't hurt to coat the old ones with shellac, fuel proof dope or epoxy/superglue to ensure that it will withstand alcohol/ethanol laced fuel. You can cut carb gaskets from any gasket material at the auto parts stores. Very simple carbs to work on.

I would also get yourself some Sea Foam Deep Kreep and try some of that through there. Good chance you've got stuck rings, even though the pistons are now freed up. A compression check might be a good thing, too...

Hmmm, I know how to do a compression check on a car engine, but that has a starter. Pull all plugs, block carb and choke open, insert gauge, crank several times. Put some oil in cylinder, and do it again.

Without an electric starter, is there a recommended way to do this, or just pull on the recoil starter a bunch of times? Since there's oil in the gas, and on this engine, there's a bunch of penetrating oil in the top cylinder, is there any reason to do both regular and oiled tests?

Lastly, how about a drill on the flywheel nut to spin it for compression test, any reason to try that, or is the recoil pulls a few times fine?

Hand pull on the starter cord until the needle stops climbing, usually no more than 3-4 pulls. The "dry" test should suffice, considering with the amount of renetrating oil in this. Rick

I have this exact boat engine and have used it in the water for the last couple years. I was wondering what it was worth. I want to know if I should retire it from the water or not. The engine obviously has been used and shows lots of signs of wear, but I would say it is in acceptable condition.

Thank you to anyone that is able to offer any insite.

They're not worth that much. I don't give more than 100 bucks for a running 3 hp, unless there are receipts backing up new ignition parts, impeller, etc., because I know I'll have to replace them.
