Hi,
I have recently brought my first boat with a 1989/90 60hp 3cyl mariner outboard. After reading my sevice manuals directions on over wintering I noted it did not say anything about removing cooling water from the powerhead. Is there a risk of the engine cracking if the cooling water stays inside it when in freezing tempertures. Or does the water drain out of an outboard so there is no risk?.Can anyone Help!

Re: Frozen power head?

Welcome to iboats, here a 'frozen power head' would likely be one that no longer turns over due to an internal failure or problem.

In your case, the cooling water should just drain down on its own accord. So there is no risk of cracking the block.

Good luck
funpilot
