I need help, advice, or just some Zanax..... My boat has a 1994 L225TXRS. For the past three fishing trips my boat has been bogging down on the way back in to the Marina, it seems almost as if its flooding. Last trip it bogged down, I let is rest for about 15 minutes and it started right up. Today, it bogged down on the way out. I recently replaced the Water Separator Filter and noticed that the Prime Bulb was very empty and never vacumed fuel. It refused to turn on today after the usual 15 minute rest and I had a great family tow me into the Marina. The engine has alway ran like a champ only lately its just driving me crazy. Should I be looking at the Fuel Pump any insight would be vastly appreciated.

Thanks,:mad::eek::confused:

Sounds to me like an intermittent, probably heat related, failure in the ignition system, Tensho.

Get a hair dryer (not a heat gun. They are too hot.) and heat up your powerpaks while she is at idle. If you get a idle speed drop you have probably heated the failing part.

Also possible: water in the fuel. Do you have a water seperating filter in the fuel line?

Welcome to iboats. :)

Re: Frustrated, Crazy, Frustrated, Nuts

Everyone thank you for the insight. I do have a water separator filter on the line, as a matter of fact its a brand new one, with a drain on the bottom. I will go ahead and replace that bulb, perhaps that can be it. I'll definately let you guys know. I was wondering if it was a heating issue but my temparature guage is pretty stable in the cool area. I did notice thought that the bulb has been weak since I replaced the separator filter. Could that be it?

Guys thanks again. If I don't get resolution at least I get venting. Thanks.:(

Mutch, sorry not too mechanically inclined but pretty good at figuring things out, fuel breather? Do you mean the Fuel filter? Let me know I'll look into it immediately.

L225TXRS
should be a left hand lower unit the X denotes its a 25" transom and in 94 the X version of the 225 was a 3.1L motor.
this motor has 6 carbs, electrically ECU controled enrichment solinoids and is rather complex.
it also eats fuel pumps and they should be replaced about every 3 years as a maint item.
that year range also had the occasional stator issue that after a period of running the charge coil voltage would start dropping.
this can be verified only with a DVA type meter and a test harness.
you can either monitor stator charge coil voltage or CDI output volyage as both are roughly the same.
CDI failures on that motor are incredibly rare but fuel system problems are not, especially with the introduction of our federally mandated fuel crap.
odds of a primer bulb failure are not high and as its on the suction side of the pump it will never stay firm.
if you instll a new racor without prefilling it then you MUST hold the bulb with the arrow skyward and pump till your hands hurt.
that racor will hold a lot of fuel and all the primer bulb is designed to do is PRIME the fuel system.
a blown fuel pump diaphrm will make the engine run icredibly rich and can damage crank, rod, wristpin bearings and pistons.
your motor has been telling you its sick, fix it or it WILL die a sudden violent death.
