BR549,

Yes it has changed. My parents place isn't that grand but they are on a beautiful and large piece of property, in a lagoon.

Re: Frustrated with the Tournament fisherman.

Im with you carphunter. Down here Tourney Fisherman call us "Meat Hunters." I had the same experience at Lake Amistad in Texas a couple months ago. My buddies and I were fishing a nice little cove and catching some bass when out of no-where comes a tourney fisherman blazing through the cove at full throttle. He passes near our boat (about 20 feet away) and kills the engine at the end of the cove. The guy and his partner look at us as if to tell us to get the ---- out of there. We keep fishing slow (Carolina rig) and they pass us just casting away. We head into the cove where they stopped and my buddy hooks and lands a 5lb Largemouth. They turn back and offer to buy the fish. Buddy of mine tosses it into the live well and tells them to fly a kite.

OK, I can understand the need for speed in tournament, but not for rudeness and general stupidity. The marina where I put in at holds a tournament every Friday nite. To date this year there have been 8 collisions between these idiots and pleasure boaters as they come blasting out of a narrow cove. To make matters worse, due to the housing on the lake and the angle of the cove, you are totally blind coming out of this cove until you are out in the main channel. I have several of these "bass-holes" as we call them cuss me out because I won't move out of thier way as they work thier way along the banks. At the speed they are running thier trolling motors (most are hp rated now) I don't see how they can even catch anything anyhow.

Maybe they're trying to provoke the fish into biting rather than entice them. For the worst of them, I'd maybe report the offender (boat reg. number) to the tourney officials.

Boy, how to take a stand for or against this!! Most, if not all states, regulate how close one boater can, (certinly at speed) can get close to another boater while on the water. A stationary boater has right of way and the "speeding" boater has to give clearance!! Having said that, if I caught a fisherman hitting my property with his fishing gear, I would tell him to stop doing so, write down his hull #'s, tell the authorities, if I was really P@s%'d and certinly inform the tourniment officials that I was going to hold THEM responsible as they are the governing body for their entrants!! The fishermen sign'd a hold harmless agreement with the tourniment officials but not with you!! If a tourniment gets enough letters, certified, then they will do something to stop this kind of "fishing" and either ban repeat offenders or reconsider having the tourniment!! One lawsuit or the threat of a lawsuit) will stop this kind of sad behavior!! And nobody really wants to stop tourniments!!! I am not against tourniments, but if individuals will not stop repeated behavior, then tell someone who has the authority to stop it!!! It's too bad that a injury or death has to happen before someone DOES do something!!! So say something now!!Or you'll read about it in the paper and wish you had of!!

Re: Frustrated with the Tournament fisherman.

The other day I seen some guy driving to work like a maniac, If we just banned work it would eliminate the problem. Turns out he was a male perhaps we should just eliminate male's. A closer inspection showed this male to be of the human species, wonder if we could just eliminate humans.
(This is the viewpoint of my dog I am not responsable for her viewpoint.)

Now for my take: So a couple of you ran into some morons, how is it you let this form you views of all pro's. Milo is a pro and the first one there to help whenever he can. I also know several semi-pro's and they are all exemplerary citizens, would give the shirt off there back.

If this is such regular reocurance of these events they should be easy to document, take your video camera and give the tape to the tourny organizers they wont tolerate it. If it is not the prevelant behavior recognize it for what it is, another idiot in a boat weve all seen them before that one just happened to be in a tournement.

In case you was wondering I do not communicate with my dog on a regular basis, only when she has something to say. Please disregard anything my sheep says, "sheep a liar"

Re: Frustrated with the Tournament fisherman.

Just puttin in my 2 cents worth on this matter...i fish bass tournaments and i also direct them.one rule we have in our tournies is a 25 yrd encroachment. meaning we are not allowed to bring out boat within 25yrds of any other boat without consent of all parties.this helps to knock down alot of the invasions ...at least around here.i have disqualified participants for doing some of the actions described above.ive also been on the receving end of the invasion...they casted into my boat so i stepped on their line and cut the lure loose.anything in my boat belongs to me.period.they didnt like it so they cussed me a bit and took off.i followed and ran circles around them every time they stopped with a good throttle for about 2 hours.they couldent outrun me bacause i had a faster boat.made me grin...i do not condone this but sometimes enouph is enouph.dont be afraid to stand your ground when invaded.and as a quick hint be courtious for at least as long as it takes to get their name registration numbers and where the tournament is docked at...just my 2 cents
